Our Technology
| R&D expertise |
| At Fotona we pride ourselves
on our technical know-how. Our impressive range of systems and
instruments is testimony to our expertise. While rapid technological
change increasingly places more and more demands on our skills
we continue to consistently rise to such challenges. |
| Optical workshop |
| One of our main competitive
advantages is our ability to manufacture the most demanding
optical components in-house. Modern cutting and polishing machines,
controlled by experienced master opticians, produce precise
optical parts which are then finished in the vacuum coating
unit where they attain their definite function and look (by
dielectric or metal coating) for operation in the visible or
IR region. |
 |
| Mechanical workshop |
| Our modern, CAD linked CNC
machines ensure precision, replicability and speed of production
of complex mechanical subassemblies regardless of the material
(aluminium alloys, casts, stainless steel, titanium, brass,
bronze or synthetics). Our know-how includes air-cushioned diamond
machining of flat and curved metal mirrors, and laser materials
processing such as cutting, drilling, engraving and other methods
of precise surface treatment of the most exacting materials.
Optical system designs that are optimal for every instrument
are added by computer. |
 |
| Electronics workshop |
| We develop most of the electronics hardware
and software ourselves. Our in-house manufacturing and control
ensure the durability, reliability and safety of all our systems |

Three Major Wavelengths:
All Major Applications
At the heart of Fotona medical laser systems are three complimentary
laser wavelengths each of which has different effects on human
tissue: These are Er:YAG, Nd:YAG and KTP:YAG. Er:YAG
(infrared 2940 nm)
Has the highest absorption in tissue for precise tissue ablation.
Nd:YAG (infrared 1064 nm)
Has the most homogeneous absorption for surgery, disinfection
and treatment of deeper-seated tissue structures.
KTP:YAG (green 532 nm)
Has high absorption in oxyhemoglobin and melanin for selective
photothermolysis.

VSP Technology:
Precision, Safety and Power
As a result of our proprietary VSP (Variable Square Pulse) technology
Fotona has pushed the precision of laser treatments into a new
dimension. This technology allows the practitioner to accomodate
the laser pulse duration and its fluence according to the needs
of the specific application. By means of digital online energy
regulation, the energy of each pulse if actively forced to match
the selective energy times while the laser is in operation.
This enables the practitioner to treat selected tissues with
unmatched efficacy without heating the surrounding tissue unnecessarily.

 |
Laser System Platforms:
Versatility and Upgradeability
By producing laser units that are able to combine two different
laser wavelengths the practitioner can now choose a versatile
system combination that is optimized for his practice, or upgrade
the system later when additional applications are required.
