How it works

Our Fotona FP Max Nd: YAG Laser works by destroying the blood supply to your hair follicles. When this blood flow is gone the follicle and its active parts will shrivel and die. There are several phases in the follicle growth cycle: early growth, active growth, regression and resting. A hair follicle in the active growth phase contains engorged blood flow and will be affected on your treatment day (however, this theory is also considered controversial nowadays, based on expert opinions and observational evidence). A resting follicle has less blood supply and will not be as affected by treatment. The energy delivered by the laser will generate enough heat to destroy your hair follicles.

Our laser technology has many safety features. Its depth of penetration goes to the very deepest follicle and people of all skin colors can be safely treated. Most lasers in the market, with a shorter wave length, target melanin, a pigment that we have in our skin. That results in heat absorbed into the skin, often not deep enough to effectively destroy a hair follicle, and such lasers have a higher incidence of skin reactions and damage. With our laser technology and with the use of our computerized scanner, treatment areas are scanned in a sequential fashion and not treated twice or more times, which minimizes the likelihood of side-effects.

Most lasers use a hand-held device to emit the laser beam, which is influenced by the operator’s hand motion over the skin and hair follicles. This can be quite a tedious procedure and subject to one’s patience and hand-motions. That is not the case with our laser technology.
