SmartLipo liposuction is a laser-assisted liposuction procedure whereby the fatty cells of a selected area of the body may be thermally dissolved, or lysed. The technology employs a thermal device, or a laser beam, that is employed to dissolve the fat cells, as well as the blood vessels and lymphatics in and around the targeted area. Subsequently, the melted fat cells and tissue is aspirated by a cannula.
Smartlipo is one of the many technologies that exist to perform Tumescent Liposuction under local anesthesia. Other non-thermal methods include ultrasound-assisted liposuction, or Vaser, Power-assisted liposuction, or PAL, and micro-cannulas.
In many cases, we combine technologies in the same patient, and in different areas, depending on the objectives. Each method has it particularities and indications, and one should employ the best indicated device for a specific area, or condition, so liposculpture can be best achieved.
